Being a Documentary Photographer
Every photography job requires slightly altering skills to ensure you are 100% successful. I am particularly interested in becoming a documentary photographer.
Research:
It is important to gather information on the topic that will be covered. Having a good understanding of the subject will help me come up with ideas on how to shoot or the way in which I would like the images to come out.
Interaction:
Establishing a connection and building a rapport will help the subject feel comfortable with you around. This is as simple as approaching them and starting a conversation.
Story Telling:
Showcasing the subjects face, especially the eyes, will allow for a story to be told. It will give the audience a lot of things to talk about, which is one of the purposes of documentary photography.
Patients:
This type of photography is particularly challenging because you have very little control over the situation, the scene, or the subject. It is important to be patient and wait for the defining moment, as things rarely unfold as soon as you arrive on the scene.
