As part of the project, feedback is required. To gather this I set up a small group and showed them my work. In particular, I showed them the virtual magazine I had created to give the viewer an idea of how the final images would look in the specific narrative theme I had chosen at the start of the project.
During this critique session I was looking for feedback points that revolved around these key points:
- Framing.
- Layout.
-Tones/Colours/General edit.
- How the images work as part of a magazine.
The first point raised was; the title looked plain. I think the shortness of each word within the title actually leads to it looking slightly proportionate - it feels to thin and narrow, where you expect it to spread across more of the page. I actually like the look of the wording, it seems to create a bit of a triangle shape, which is quite pleasing to the eye. If the cover image was slightly different in its framing and layout then I think a more conventional title could have been used.
Next, the images match the Audi and VW brand themes.
One thing that was complimented was that I had intentionally left the side lights on the cars on. Doing this added more dynamism and the glow fed into the golden hour timing.
A thought that a few people had was that the church in the background of a couple of images was actually a little distracting. I tend to agree with this point, along with the branches on the cover image. In hindsight I would have edited these out of the final images.
The 3rd and 4th pages, which form a double spread have two overlapping images along the spine of the magazine. The edges of which are two tree trunks that merge together. It was pointed out that ideally, this would have been centred, to form what would look like one tree. This is just one of those things. At the time of shooting I didn't have this exact layout in mind, so i'm just happy that it fits together in that way!
Another thing pointed out was the thick, white, text spaces on some of the pages felt quiet distracting - ruining the theme. I couldn't really find a way
Quick summary, that highlights that everything overall was positive.
