Location
To produce my final image I headed down to Caldecotte Lake to take the landscape images required for my double exposure. I tried to arrive at this location just as the sun was beginning to set so that I could take advantage of any shadows that would be cast. This would be perfect for the portion of the image that I needed to be less exposed for use covering my subjects eyes. This is key to defining the undertones of the final image.
Initially, to achieve this I thought it would be great to use the length of the concrete overflow as this strip. However, as you can see, the amount of the overflow you can see from the grass is very minimal and did not provide a desirable strip. This was also not helped by the grass itself which was dark in itself, not allowing for a good enough definition between the two sections and the sky.
Just around the corner, however, you can get a good view of the length of the overflow and a section of trees and banks by looking along the overflow in a westwardly direction. This orientation was ideal because of the sun setting in the distance meaning that dark silhouettes were produced in front of the trees and a nice reflection in the water that produces another well exposed area that compliments the sky and juxtaposes the darkness of the trees and the concrete.
