Double Exposures
Each of these double exposures were created very simply using a handy application on my camera. This allows you to shoot two images, one black and white, and the other in colour. Whilst you are shooting it will show the first image as an overlay to give you an idea of what the final image could look like. This was perfect for experimenting as it made the process very quick.
The best outcomes were apparent when the background was mostly black and white with a less dominant colour foreground subject. The darker the shadows in the black and white image, the of the colour image would show through in this area.
Juxtaposition
These are two images that I happened upon by chance. The juxtaposition is provided by the shock factor of not expecting to see a piece of rubbish balanced so meticulously in a bush.
Waldemar Strempler Homage
This was a literal cut and paste job. I printed the underlying image full size on a A4 sheet of paper. I then changed the image to black and white and then cropped the image so that it was twice as big as before, printing that full size on a A4 page as well. Then i ripped the black and white image so that only the eyes were remaining and placed it over the position it would normally occupy on the underlying image. All i had to do then was scan it using my printer.
The effect created by enlarging the eyes on Stremplers original doesn't work nearly as well when using a subject that is wearing glasses. However, i am pleased with the result of combining the black and white and colour images. A certain charm is added to the piece by the scanner as it isn't so great at reproducing the original colours in the image. It gives it a film like quality, which is pleasant.
